Just above the house is the trail "Antica Strada Valerian" situated. It stretches along the hills framing the lake Iseo. Variable pitch and difficulty, which requires good shoes on your feet though. The proposal is to go to any village along the trial and then take the train back to Sale Marasino if you want to alternate the ride home.
Other hiking trails, also in the vicinity of Sale Marasino with varying difficulty levels are:
Right in front of the house is Monte Isola located, said to be the largest island in a European lake (if you consider the lakes on the European continent). The island is a huge rock that is rising out of the lake.
At the top there is a small monastery called Madonna della Ceriola, to which you can come taking existing hiking trails. There is also an opportunity to go around the island, a walk of approximately 2 hours. On the way there is more possibilities to stop and dine at one of the restaurants located in the villages you are passing on the road around the island.
Golf
For golfers there is a selection of different golf courses with different characters, within 1 hour radius with car, from Sale Marasino. Some we recommend are:
Winery
Franciacorta is a small but very well known area for its quality wines. In particular they are known for their white sparkling wines, Brut and Satèn. These are called Franciacorta wines. It also produced a very fine red wines, which then is called Corte Franca. Vineyards are often small and produce their wines with grapes from their own "vignete", i.e. , vineyards. A few farms that are well worth their visit is:
Skiing
During the winter, it is not far to find excellent areas and systems for those who are interested in downhill skiing. Behind Sale Marasino is located valley Val Trompia, which offers good opportunities in the site Passo Maniva (approx on 1800 m height)
If you rather would like to ski in a big systems, which offers more than 100 km prepared slopes do we recommend Passo Tonale/Ponte di Legno, which is just over an hour's drive from Sale Marasino. It is normally possible to ski from the beginning of December to the end of April. But that can vary from year to year according to the amount of snow and temperatures of course.
View of Val Trompia, on the way up to Punta Almana
I Piramidi (The Pyramids) in Zone village is a busy attraction, created by nature. Natural erosions have created these pillars, of which a number of large stones are resting on the top
Food & Meals
Food is a central theme in the Italian culture. Regardless of whether you choose to prepare it yourself or to go out on any of all of the restaurants and trattorias, there's a good chance that it will be a good meal!
Better and well-stocked grocery stores are within 10 minutes by car from the house. We recommend either Zerbimarkt inside of Iseo or Esselunga at Franciacorta. Smaller shops and bakeries are in the vicinity of 200 - 500 m distance.
There is plenty of restaurants and trattorias to chose among, from the very basic kitchen to the more exclusive. Often, it is the lake catches on the menus, then Iseo lake is offering a lot of good fresh water fishes.
